Museum Services Coordinator

Location: Pueblo, CO

Unique job opportunity! †We are seeking a Museum Services Coordinator - to work part-time 24 hours per week!

The purpose of the Museum Coordinator is to increase use of digital services, library visits and program attendance by creating a positive experience for customers who visit the Special Collections and Museum Services department.† This position is responsible for the daily operations of the InfoZone News Museum, for developing educational programs and museum exhibits that appeal to diverse audiences, and for providing direct customer service.

The Museum Coordinator reports to the Manager of Special Collections and Museum Services.† This position works as a flexible team member of the department, serving customers and working with volunteers and related outside organizations. Represents the Library as a courteous and knowledgeable professional.† Provides excellent customer service demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively with people regardless of age, race, sexual orientation, ability level or background.

About the Position ...

Responsible for the daily operations of the InfoZone Museum, greets visitors, answers phones and provides information about the museum and other library programs and services.† Demonstrates interactive exhibits for customers.† Serves as cashier for the gift shop, operates credit card machine, handles money and balances drawer.

Operates technical equipment in the InfoZone Theater to show movies and assist with outside organization programs in the department.†

Provides direct customer service in Special Collections; offers assistance with locating and accessing archival and other materials, provides reference and research assistance.

Instructs customers on use of libraryís computers, devices special equipment and e-resources including databases and downloadables. Stays current on use of new library technology resources.

Proactively provides information to customers to promote library events and programs.

Explains library regulations and procedures and resolves basic customer issues.†

Works with the department manager to plan and implement a yearly schedule of special programs and exhibits.† Works with Facilities and team members to install traveling exhibits.

Maintains the InfoZone calendar of events and movie schedule. Ensures event postings are accurate and take place according to schedule.† Coordinates ordering and returning movie rentals and operates theatre equipment.

Compiles program statistics, prepares reports, maintains program data and performs other administrative duties.

Performs research to create interesting educational programs and exhibits for diverse audiences with a focus on multi-disciplinary delivery methods.† Makes educational presentations to groups.

Coordinates tours and programs with other departments to promote interest in themes, library resources and events.

Works with volunteers and interns on a regular basis.

Works within guidelines and standards for the preparation and storage of all collections.

Works with Community Relations on the promotion of programs and exhibits.

Manages grant funded educational programs, ensures compliance with grant rules and guidelines.

Stays current on trends in the Museum and Special Collections industries.

Supports team efforts to maintain a safe and secure environment for customers and staff by maintaining awareness of surroundings and working in accordance with safety policies and procedures.

Participates in regularly scheduled department meetings.† Attends All Staff Development Days and other training sessions to acquire new skills and to stay current on all information that is pertinent to PCCLD.

Reads daily organizational communications from intranet, e-mail, newsletters and print announcements.† Stays current on all library services, programs and events throughout the district. Regularly accesses electronic time keeping, payroll and personnel employee access systems.

Education and Experience:†† Bachelorís degree in history, museum studies, education, or a closely related field is required; Masters Degree preferred.† One year related work experience is required; experience working in a library, museum or research setting is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:††

  • Excellent organizational and planning skills are required with demonstrated creativity in developing exhibits and programs for diverse audiences.†
  • Knowledge of current archival and museum principles and practices.†
  • Stays current on trends in the Museum and Special Collections industries.†
  • Must have excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate well with people of all ages, demographics, ethnic backgrounds and ability levels.†
  • Demonstrated maturity with the ability to oversee the operations of a public service area; independent judgment within procedural boundaries; effective problem solving skills.†
  • Ability to make engaging educational presentations to diverse groups.†
  • Familiarity with a variety of subject matters and skilled in historic research methods.†
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a team member.
  • Must possess strong computer skills with the ability to use a variety of electronic and digital devices and e-resources; possesses a keen interest in using and learning new technologies.†
  • Ability to function under flexible and changing conditions.†

Physical Requirements:† Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds and push /pull a fully loaded book cart weighing up to 200 pounds.

Other Requirements:† Must be able to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings and weekends.† Must submit to and successfully pass a criminal background investigation.†

Salary Range - $14.65-$19.70 per hour
